TROOP E NEWS RELEASE March 30, 2017 Anacoco Man Killed in Vernon Parish Crash Vernon Parish – Earlier today, a single vehicle crashed killed a man from Anacoco, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 12:35 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 171 south of Anacoco. The crash involved a 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by Lenda R. Santos (W/F 64 yrs) of Anacoco. The Ford was southbound on US Hwy 171 when Santos lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree. Santos was wearing her seat belt, but received moderate injuries. She was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment. Her only passenger, identified as Harold L. Santos (W/M 67 yrs), was wearing his seat belt. However, he was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Troop E Troopers have investigated fourteen fatal crashes in 2017, resulting in nineteen fatalities.
