TROOP E NEWS RELEASE June 4, 2017 Unrestrained Montgomery Man Killed in Late Night Crash, High Speed Considered a Factor Grant Parish – Late last night, a single vehicle crash killed a young man from Montgomery, LA. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash. Troopers responded to the crash around 10:45 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 71 north of Montgomery. The crash involved a 2008 Lexus GS, driven by Jacob Robb Kuhlman (W/M 22 yrs). The Lexus was southbound on US Hwy 71, traveling at a high rate of speed, when Kuhlman lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with several trees. Kuhlman was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of highway crashes and fatalities. Troop E Troopers have investigated 20 fatal crashes in 2017, resulting in 25 fatalities.
