TROOP E NEWS RELEASE November 15, 2016 Baton Rouge Man Killed in Rapides Parish Crash Rapides Parish – Last night, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man from Baton Rouge, LA and injured a man from Monroe, LA. Both men were wearing a seat belt. Troopers responded to the crash around 6:50 p.m., which occurred on Interstate 49 north of the Avoyelles Parish line. The crash involved a 2004 Saturn Ion, driven by Boris Dexter Boyd (B/M 51 yrs) and a 2015 Nissan 370, driven by Kevin Tran (O/M 20 yrs). The Saturn was southbound on Interstate 49, traveling very slow, switching from the left lane to the right lane. This action resulted in the southbound Nissan, which was traveling in the right lane of Interstate 49, colliding with the Saturn. Boyd was pronounced dead at the scene. Tran received moderate injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center for treatment. Toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Although the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers would like to remind the public of the following: inattentive and distracted driving is dangerous and is a leading cause of crashes in our state. It is important for motorists to pay attention to what is going on outside of the vehicle they are driving. Troop E Troopers have investigated 47 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 53 fatalities.
