TROOP E NEWS RELEASE November 15, 2016 Impaired Clarence Woman Charged in Death of Coushatta Man, After Causing Crash Natchitoches Parish – Earlier this evening, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man from Coushatta, LA and injured an impaired woman from Clarence, LA. Both drivers were not wearing a seat belt. A sixteen year old juvenile, that was a passenger in the woman’s vehicle, was also injured. Troopers responded to the crash around 6:10 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 6 east of Natchitoches, LA. The crash involved a 2005 Ford pickup, driven by Ebone S. Wilson (B/F 35 yrs) and a 1994 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Derrik W. Williams (B/M 32 yrs). The Ford was eastbound on LA Hwy 6, approaching the rear of a stopped 18 wheeler, when Wilson steered into the westbound. This action was an attempt to avoid colliding with the rear of the stopped 18 wheeler, but resulted in a head-on collision with the westbound Chevrolet. Williams was pronounced dead on the scene. Wilson was transported to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. Her only passenger, a juvenile, was transported to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Wilson has been charged with vehicular homicide, driving left of center, open container, and not wearing a seatbelt. Toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Motorists must be reminded that alcohol has many effects on the body. Alcohol can impair visual ability, alter sense of time and space, impair fine motor skills needed to operate a motor vehicle, and decrease reaction times. Just one drink may cause these effects. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Troop E Troopers have investigated 48 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 54 fatalities.
