TROOP E NEWS RELEASE November 29, 2016 Florien Teen Killed in Crash Involving Train Sabine Parish – Late this afternoon, a crash involving a single vehicle and a train killed a teenager from Florien, LA. Railroad track yield signs were visible at the crossing. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:15 p.m., which occurred on Gandy Road near US Hwy 171. The crash involved a 2007 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Kevin J. Brown (W/M 17 yrs) and a Kansas City Southern train. For unknown reasons, Brown, which was eastbound on Gandy Road, failed to yield for the northbound train and collided with it. After impact, the Chevrolet exited the left side of the roadway and overturned. It is unknown if Brown was wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers want to take this time to remind motorists that trains can stop, but they can’t stop quickly. That is why it is so important to look and listen for trains when approaching a railroad crossing and to always yield the right of way to trains.
