TROOP E NEWS RELEASE January 17, 2017 Three Killed in Fiery Vernon Parish Crash Vernon Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed three people. Troopers responded to the crash around 1:40 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 1146 near Rosepine, LA. The crash involved a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The Chevrolet was eastbound on LA Hwy 1146 when the driver lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with several trees before overturning and becoming fully engulfed in flames. There were three occupants, in the vehicle, at the time of the crash. All three were trapped inside and were pronounced dead. The identities of all three are being withheld, at this time, pending positive identification by DNA analysis. It is unknown, at this time, if seat belts were used by the occupants or if the driver was impaired. The investigation remains ongoing. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated three fatal crashes in 2017, resulting in five fatalities.
