TROOP E NEWS RELEASE

January 26, 2017
Early Morning Crash Kills Winnsboro Man

Winn Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Winnsboro, LA. It is currently unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.

Troopers responded to the crash around 7:00 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 34 at LA Hwy 126. The crash involved a 1998 Kenworth (18 wheeler), driven by Cody Heath Gallagher (W/M 27 yrs). The Kenworth was eastbound on LA Hwy 34 when Gallagher lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle overturned causing the trailer to land on the cab of the vehicle.

Gallagher was pronounced dead on the scene.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Although the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers would like to remind the public of the following: inattentive and distracted driving is dangerous and is a leading cause of crashes in our state. It is important for motorists to pay attention to what is going on outside of the vehicle they are driving. More information on distracted driving may be found online at the federal government’s official distracted driving website, www.distraction.gov.

Troop E Troopers have investigated four fatal crashes in 2017, resulting in six fatalities.
