TROOP E NEWS RELEASE May 10, 2016 Unrestrained Teen Killed in Early Morning Crash Involving School Bus Avoyelles Parish – Early this morning, a crash involving two vehicles killed a teenager from Marksville, LA that was not wearing a seat belt. The crash involved a school bus, but did not have children aboard. Troopers responded to the crash around 5:40 a.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 107 at Gum Ridge Road. The crash involved a 1997 Oldsmobile, driven by Joshua P. Frank (B/M 19 yrs) and a 1998 International (school bus), driven by Leon G. Coleman (B/M 58 yrs) of Pineville, LA. The Oldsmobile was northbound on LA Hwy 107 when Frank lost control and crossed the centerline into the southbound lane. This action resulted in the Oldsmobile colliding with the southbound International. Frank was pronounced dead. Coleman was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes. Troop E Troopers have investigated sixteen fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in eighteen fatalities.
