TROOP E NEWS RELEASE September 21, 2015 Pedestrian Killed in Avoyelles Parish Crash Avoyelles Parish – Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a pedestrian from Marksville, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 2:45 p.m., which occurred on LA Hwy 1192 at Marvin Graham Road. The crash involved a 2011 Nissan Frontier, driven by Dane R. Flook (W/M 33 yrs) of Hessmer, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Annette B. Smith (W/F 50 yrs). The Nissan was westbound on LA Hwy 1192 when it collided with Smith. Smith was jogging westbound in the westbound lane when the crash occurred. Flook was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. Smith was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic. Troop E Troopers have investigated 29 fatal crashes in 2015, resulting in 34 fatalities.
