TROOP E NEWS RELEASE June 14, 2015 Collaborated Effort by Authorities Save Over One Hundred Individuals Colfax, LA- Early this morning, the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office contacted Louisiana State Police Troop E and requested assistance in the evacuation of the Colfax Mudfest Recreational Park. The recreational park is located behind the Red River levee along the Red River in Grant Parish. The park owner had a temporary levee constructed to keep the rising river/flood water off of the site of recreational activities. The temporary levee proved to be no match for the forces of the ‘Red” and it began to give way, resulting in a considerable amount of water entering the park area. The Grant Parish Sherriff’s Office was able to establish that approximately 100 individuals were trapped on high ground as the flood waters began to rise. LSP Troop E immediately dispatched Troopers to the scene to coordinate assistance between LSP and the Grant Parish Sherriff’s Office. Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries were requested and responded to the scene to join in rescue efforts. These agents, along with Troopers and Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies began the evacuation process by utilizing boats. The Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) was contacted and coordinated air support from the Louisiana Army National Guard (LANG). As of approximately 10:00 a.m., 113 individuals have been evacuated/rescued. Wildlife and Fisheries agents have staged boats in the area should additional evacuations be required. LANG air support continue to surveil the affected area.
