TROOP E NEWS RELEASE

June 28, 2015
Boyce Man Killed in Natchitoches Parish Crash

Natchitoches Parish – Last night, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Boyce, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 8:00 p.m., which occurred on Interstate 49 near the Natchitoches/Rapides Parish line. The crash involved a 2014 Ford Mustang, driven by Bryan J. Chauvin (W/M 48 yrs). The Ford was southbound on Interstate 49 when it began hydroplaning during a moderate rain storm. The vehicle then exited the left side of the roadway and collided with several trees.

Chauvin was wearing his seat belt, but received serious injuries. He was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center and was later pronounced dead.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Although the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, Troopers would like to remind the public of the following: speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of highway crashes and fatalities.

While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 17 fatal crashes in 2015, resulting in 22 fatalities.
