TROOP E NEWS RELEASE July 18, 2015 Pedestrian Killed on Interstate 49 Rapides Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a pedestrian from Forest Hill, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 5:00 a.m., which occurred on Interstate 49 south of Alexandria. The crash involved an unknown vehicle and a pedestrian, identified as Rigoberto Ortega Luna (O/M 23 yrs). Prior to the crash, Luna was operating a vehicle southbound on Interstate 49 and had stopped on the shoulder. For unknown reasons, Luna entered the southbound lane and was struck by an unknown vehicle. That unknown vehicle fled the scene. Luna was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. *Anyone with information, regarding this crash, is asked to call Troop E at (318) 487-5911. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials. Pedestrians that are walking at night should try to carry a flashlight for added safety. A person should always walk on a sidewalk, but if there is not a sidewalk available, you should always walk on the shoulder or if no shoulder is available, as close to the roadway edge facing traffic. Troop E Troopers have investigated 19 fatal crashes in 2015, resulting in 24 fatalities.
