TROOP E NEWS RELEASE February 23, 2016 Leesville Man Killed in Vernon Parish Crash Vernon Parish – Last night, a single vehicle crash killed a pedestrian from Leesville, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 7:25 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 171 near Rosepine, LA. The crash involved a 2009 Ford Explorer, driven by Roy A. Hightower (W/M 62 yrs) of Leesville and a pedestrian, identified as Clarence E. Crosby Jr. (W/M 69 yrs). Prior to this crash, Crosby Jr. was operating a motorcycle and was involved in a separate single vehicle crash. As a result, he became separated from his motorcycle before the southbound Ford collided with him as he attempted to stand. Hightower was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. Crosby Jr. was pronounced dead on the scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated six fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in eight fatalities.
