TROOP E NEWS RELEASE March 25, 2016 Crash Involving Train Kills Anacoco Man Vernon Parish – Earlier today, a crash involving a single vehicle and a train killed an elderly man from Anacoco, LA. The railroad crossing’s red flashing lights and warning bell were activated. The crossing was also equipped with crossing arms, which were in the down position at the time of the crash. Troopers responded to the crash around 10:10 a.m., which occurred on West Hawthorne Road near US Hwy 171. The crash involved a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Edward D. Addison (W/M 81 yrs) and a Kansas City Southern train. For unknown reason, Addison drove around the crossing arms and was struck by the southbound train. Addison was wearing his seat belt, but was pronounced dead. There were not any injuries reported from those on the train. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers want to take this time to remind motorists that trains can stop, but they can’t stop quickly. That is why it is so important to look and listen for trains when approaching a railroad crossing and to always yield the right of way to trains. Troop E Troopers have investigated nine fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in eleven fatalities.
