TROOP E NEWS RELEASE

March 25, 2016
Unrestrained Zwolle Woman Killed in Crash

Sabine Parish – Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed a woman from Zwolle, LA and injured three others. The woman killed and the other driver were not wearing their seat belts.

Troopers responded to the crash around 3:10 p.m., which occurred on Carters Ferry Road near LA Hwy 191. The crash involved a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Jessica P. Procell (W/F 27 yrs) and a 2002 Buick LeSabre, driven by Doris E. Jones (W/F 71 yrs). The Chevrolet was westbound on Carters Ferry Road when Procell lost control and crossed the centerline. After crossing the centerline, the Chevrolet collided with the eastbound Buick.

Procell received moderate injuries and was transported to Sabine Medical Center. Her two juvenile passengers received minor/moderate injuries. One was transported to Sabine Medical and the other was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport.

Jones was pronounced dead on the scene.

Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes.

Troop E Troopers have investigated ten fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in twelve fatalities.
