TROOP E NEWS RELEASE February 4, 2016 Fleeing Suspect Killed in Crash Rapides Parish – Earlier today, an Alexandria man fleeing from law enforcement officers was killed in a crash. At approximately 12:30 p.m., Rapides Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a residence in the 1500 block of Shannon Road in Alexandria, LA. They were attempting to serve an arrest warrant to Michael W. Davis (W/M 44 yrs) for domestic violence. When deputies made contact with Davis, he fled in a vehicle resulting in a pursuit. During the pursuit, officers were successful in deploying spikes on two tires, but the suspect continued to flee in a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am. Davis lost control of the Pontiac on US Hwy 165 south of Alexandria and collided with the rear trailer portion of a 2012 Freightliner (18 wheeler). The Freightliner was stopped on the southbound shoulder, yielding to law enforcement officers, when the crash occurred around 12:47 p.m. Davis was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner, identified as Donnell M. Peterson (B/M 40 yrs) of Alexandria, was not injured. Alexandria Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force assisted in the pursuit. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated three fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in five fatalities.
