REGION 3 NEWS RELEASE November 17, 2015 Two Opelousas Men Arrested on Drug Charges Rapides Parish – Earlier today, Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation/Alexandria Field Office (LSP AFO) arrested Paul Lewis (B/M 31 yrs) of Opelousas, LA and Michael Edwards Jr. (B/M 28 yrs) of Opelousas, LA for possession with the intent to distribute CDS I (controlled dangerous substance), possession of drug paraphernalia, and conspiracy to introduce contraband into a correctional facility. On Friday, November 13, 2015, LSP AFO was contacted by the Avoyelles Correctional Center (state facility), in Cottonport, LA, regarding inmates attempting to smuggle narcotics into the prison. This attempted criminal activity was being conducted by work release inmates. Based on information obtained during the investigation, agents were able to identify the couriers as Lewis and Edwards Jr. Both were arrested. They were in possession of over 50 bundles of synthetic marijuana and over 20 packages of cigarette paper. Lewis and Edwards Jr. were booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center. The Avoyelles Correctional Center (state facility) assisted in the investigation.
