News Release – Troop D January 11, 2013 Unrestrained Passenger Seriously Injured in Calcasieu Parish Crash On January 11, 2013, at 11:33 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3059 one mile east of U.S. Highway 171 in Calcasieu Parish that seriously injured the passenger and resulted in the arrest of the driver. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Mitsubishi was traveling west on LA 3059 when the driver, 29-year-old Lindsey Anderson of Jennings, lost control of the vehicle in a curve causing the vehicle to strike a driveway and become airborne before crashing into a ditch. Anderson was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Lexy Shaylynn Fontenot of Lake Charles, was also not wearing a seatbelt was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Anderson was charged with DWI, vehicular negligent injuring, careless operation, and failure to wear a seatbelt. She was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. Toxicology samples were obtained for analysis and the crash remains under investigation. During 2011, 65 percent of drivers who died in crashes in our state were not wearing a seatbelt. Wearing a seatbelt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to help protect themselves in the event of a crash.
