News Release – Troop D July 7, 2012 Fatal crash in Calcasieu Parish On July 6, 2012, shortly after 9 p.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two vehicle crash north of Westlake on Louisiana Highway 378 that claimed the life of a Longville man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Mazda 626 driven by 49-year-old Rodie Kelley of Longville was traveling west on Hudson road approaching a stop sign at Highway 378. Kelley stopped at the stop sign then traveled forward into the path of a 2000 Ford F-350 that was traveling north on Highway 378 driven by 30-year-old Daniel Crosby of Westlake. The Ford truck struck the driver’s side of the Mazda car. Kelley suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. Crosby was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seat belt. A toxicology sample was obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Inattentive and distracted driving are leading causes of crashes in our state. Motorists should always pay close attention to other traffic and drive with care.
