News Release – Troop D July 7, 2012 Checkpoint in Calcasieu Parish results in four DWI arrests Last night, troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D with assistance from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Westlake Police, and Lake Charles City Police conducted a DWI checkpoint in Calcasieu Parish. The checkpoint resulted in 4 DWI arrests. In addition, 25 citations were issued at the checkpoint for a variety of other violations. Last year, two people lost their lives in impaired driving crashes investigated by Troop D over the Fourth of July holiday period. Increased Fourth of July holiday enforcement efforts will continue through Sunday night. Area law enforcement agencies, including the Louisiana State Police, will target motorists who choose to endanger themselves and others by driving impaired.
· Before drinking, designate a sober driver; · If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely; · If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to contact the Louisiana State Police by dialing *LSP (*577) on your cellular phone. · And remember, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” If you know someone who is about to drive or ride while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.
