Unrestrained Man Dies in Allen Parish Crash

On December 5, 2012, shortly after 10:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 165 about 2 miles north of Kinder in Allen Parish that claimed the life of a man from Oberlin, Louisiana.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria driven by 78-year-old John D. Manuel of Oberlin was traveling south on U.S. 165 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle he was driving ran off the right side of the road then struck two trees. Manuel, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allen Parish Coroner’s Office.

Manuel served as the Allen Parish Constable and was on-duty at the time of the crash.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Manuel and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes involve occupants who are not wearing seatbelts. Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of being properly restrained at all times.
