News Release – Troop D October 19, 2012 Head-On Crash in Beauregard Parish Kills Texas Woman On October 19, 2012, shortly after 9:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 190 about 3 miles east of U.S. Highway 171 between Ragley and Reeves in Beauregard Parish that killed a Texas woman and sent two other people to the hospital with moderate injuries. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Honda Accord driven by 59-year-old George L. Hodges, Jr. or Dequincy, LA was traveling east on U.S. 190 when the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line and traveled into the westbound lane of travel before striking a 2010 Mazda 3 driven by 71-year-old Robert L. Stinespring of Llano, TX head-on. Both drivers were transported to area hospitals with moderate injuries. The lone passenger in Stinespring’s vehicle, 71-year-old Guadalupe L. Stinespring of Llano, TX, was sitting in the front passenger seat and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene. All vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts. Troopers suspect Hodges may have fallen asleep prior to the crash. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis. Hodges was charged with driving left of center. The crash remains under investigation. Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that sleep deprivation can impair one’s ability to drive safely. Some studies have shown that cognitive impairment caused by sleep deprivation can affect driving as much as alcohol impairment. Drivers are encouraged to be well rested before getting behind the wheel and to take breaks whenever necessary. Contact Information: Sgt.
