| TROOP A NEWS RELEASE October 19, 2016 Unrestrained Denham Springs Woman Dies in Single Vehicle Crash in East Baton Rouge Parish Baton Rouge, LA – Shortly before 7:00 pm on October 19, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle crash on LA 327 east of Ben Hur Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 39 year old Amy Fitzhugh of Denham Springs, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Fitzhugh was traveling eastbound on LA 327 in a 2015 Buick Verano. For unknown reasons, Fitzhugh’s vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway and she overcorrected to the right. Fitzhugh lost control of her vehicle and it ran off the right side of the roadway. Fitzhugh’s vehicle traveled down an embankment and began to overturn, partially ejecting her from the vehicle. Fitzhugh was not restrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash but a toxicology sample will be taken from Fitzhugh for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
