News Release – Troop D March 24, 2012 Checkpoint in Calcasieu Parish results in three DWI arrests Lake Charles, LA – Last night troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D, with assistance from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office, and Lake Charles City Police, conducted a DWI checkpoint on U.S. Highway 90 east of Interstate Highway 210 in Calcasieu Parish. A total of 178 vehicles were screened resulting in 3 DWI arrests. In addition to the DWI arrests, 4 citations were issued for driving under suspension, and 1 was issued for no driver’s license. Last year, Troop D investigated 18 fatal crashes resulting in 20 fatalities. Of those 20 fatalities, 10 (50%) were killed by impaired drivers (alcohol and/or drugs). To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
