News Release – Troop D March 15, 2012 DWI checkpoint in Calcasieu Parish In an effort to combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop D plans to conduct a DWI checkpoint Saturday, March 17, 2012, from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Calcasieu Parish. Our mission will be to find and remove impaired drivers from the road before they can cause injury or death to themselves or others. In addition, troopers will be assigned to roving DWI patrols during the checkpoint. Last year, Troop D investigated 18 fatal crashes resulting in 20 fatalities. Of those 20 fatalities, 10 (50%) were killed by impaired drivers (alcohol and/or drugs). Motorists are asked to designate a sober driver before heading out. Drive sober or get pulled over. To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
