News Release – Troop D March 18, 2012 Checkpoint in Calcasieu Parish results in five DWI arrests Iowa, LA – Last night troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D, with assistance from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office, conducted a DWI checkpoint on U.S. Highway 90 west of Iowa in Calcasieu Parish. A total of 344 vehicles were screened resulting in 5 DWI arrests. At the checkpoint, 23 citations were issued for a variety of infractions and one person was arrested for two outstanding warrants for theft and simple criminal damage to property. In addition to the 5 checkpoint arrests, troopers arrested 5 other people for DWI last night while conducting roving patrols. Drive sober or get pulled over. Last year, Troop D investigated 18 fatal crashes resulting in 20 fatalities. Of those 20 fatalities, 10 (50%) were killed by impaired drivers (alcohol and/or drugs).
