Fatal hit and run crash in Calcasieu Parish

On May 5, 2012, at 1:49 a.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 3112 about 1 mile west of U.S. Highway 90 in Calcasieu Parish that claimed the life of a man from Lake Charles.

Preliminary investigation revealed that 35-year-old Claude William Stuart of Lake Charles was lying in the westbound lane of LA 3112 when an unknown vehicle struck Stuart and did not stop. Stuart was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office.

A toxicology sample was obtained from Stuart and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Safety is a shared responsibility for all road users, including drivers and pedestrians. A majority of pedestrian fatalities, nearly 70 percent, occur at night. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear light colored clothing, reflective materials, and to carry a flashlight at night.
