TROOP D - NEWS RELEASE
April 22, 2012
Calcasieu Parish Serious Injury Crash Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles seriously injured a young woman from Texas.
Troopers responded to the crash around 10:50 am, which occurred on US Hwy 171 at North Perkins Ferry Road. The crash involved a 1999 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Ashley Nicole Oles (W/F 20 yrs) of Nacogdoches, TX and a 2012 Chevrolet CTV, driven by Gary L. Martin (W/M 59 yrs) of Anacoco, LA. The Chevrolet CTV was south bound on US Hwy 171 when the Chevrolet pickup entered the south bound lane of US Hwy 171 from North Perkins Ferry Road. This action caused the Chevrolet CTV to collide with the Chevrolet pickup.
Oles was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected. She received serious injuries and was transported to Saint Patrick’s Hospital.
Martin was wearing his seatbelt and received minor injuries. He was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.
Oles was cited for failure to yield at stop sign and no seatbelt.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”
