TROOP D NEWS RELEASE December 13, 2013 Fatal Crash in Jefferson Davis Parish On December 13, 2013, shortly before 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two vehicle crash on Hoke Road just south of Interstate 10 one mile east of Welsh. The crash claimed the life of a man from Welsh. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1993 Toyota Corolla driven by 82-year-old Harold J. Daigle of Welsh was traveling east on the south I-10 Frontage Road when he failed to yield the right-of-way to a dump truck traveling north on Hoke Road driven by 65-year-old Lamuel L. Trahan of Jennings. The vehicle Daigle was driving was struck by the dump truck. Daigle was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Both drivers were wearing a seat belt. Impairment on the part of Daigle is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Today through January 1, 2014, the Louisiana State Police and other law enforcement agencies are participating in the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. Motorists can expect to see DWI checkpoints and roving patrols targeting impaired drivers during the holiday period. Funding for these checkpoints and additional patrols is provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency. Contact Information: | |||
