TROOP D NEWS RELEASE February 1, 2014 Unrestrained Woman Dies in Allen Parish Crash On January 31, 2014, at 8:45 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 26 east of Oberlin that claimed the life of an Oberlin woman. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Nissan driven by 40-year-old Kimberly Lovejoy of Oberlin was traveling west on LA 26 east of Oberlin at a high rate of speed when Lovejoy failed to negotiate a curve to the right. The vehicle traveled off the highway and struck a ditch embankment causing the vehicle to flip repeatedly before coming to rest. Lovejoy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allen Parish Coroner’s Office. There were no passengers in the vehicle. Excessive speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained from Lovejoy and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists should always make the smart choice and wear their seatbelt. Every trip. Every time. This is the third fatal crash investigated by Troop D this year. | |||
