TROOP D NEWS RELEASE February 6, 2014 Sulphur Man Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography Yesterday, detectives assigned to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations served a search warrant at the residence of 52-year-old James Allen Newman of Sulphur in Calcasieu Parish. The search warrant was obtained as the result of an Operation Child Watch investigation into suspected downloading and distribution of child pornography. Troopers determined Newman was the person responsible for downloading and distributing child pornography. During questioning, Newman admitted to downloading child pornography. As part of the investigation, detectives seized computers for forensic analysis. Newman was charged with pornography involving juveniles and was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. If convicted, Newman faces up to a $50,000 fine and from five to twenty years in prison without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. The mission of Operation Child Watch is to rescue children from the potential abuse of child predators by targeting those individuals with sexually explicit images and/or videos on their computers.
