TROOP D NEWS RELEASE

March 3, 2014
Sulphur Woman Arrested for DWI with Child Endangerment

Last night, shortly before 8:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash involving an impaired driver traveling with four children on Interstate 10 Eastbound near PPG Drive in Calcasieu Parish.

The crash occurred when a 2001 Dodge pickup driven by 31-year-old Amanda Michelle Migues of Sulphur was driven off of the roadway into a guardrail. The vehicle became hung up on the guardrail as a result of the crash.

Migues was traveling with her husband and four children, ages 13, 11, 9, and 2. No injuries were reported.

Troopers observed significant signs of impairment on the part of Migues. Migues was placed under arrest for DWI with child endangerment, careless operation, expired license plate, no inspection sticker, and no driver’s license on person. She was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

Illegal narcotics use is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Troopers obtained a toxicology sample for analysis.

While impaired driving is never acceptable behavior, placing children in harm’s way by driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol with children in the vehicle carries enhanced penalties under Louisiana state law. To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
