TROOP D NEWS RELEASE October 14, 2013 DeRidder Man Dies in Allen Parish Crash On October 14, 2013, shortly after 6:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a three vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 112 west of Louisiana Highway 377 in Allen Parish that claimed the life of a man from DeRidder. The crash occurred when a 1990 Toyota 4 Runner traveling east on LA 112 traveled off of the roadway in a slight curve for unknown reasons. The driver, 52-year-old Michael D. Cooley of DeRidder, overcorrected and re-entered the roadway striking a westbound log truck driven by 33-year-old Harlen Johnson of Pitkin. The driver of the log truck attempted to avoid the crash and sideswiped another log truck that was traveling east driven by 56-year-old Freddie W. Busby of DeRidder. Cooley, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither of the other drivers was injured. Routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While the exact cause of this crash remains under investigation, inattentive and distracted driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state.
