TROOP D NEWS RELEASE March 12, 2014 Mock Crash Thursday Morning in Moss Bluff Louisiana State Police Troop D will participate in a “mock crash” at Sam Houston High School in Moss Bluff (Calcasieu Parish) on Thursday, March 13. The “crash” is scheduled to commence promptly at 09:15 a.m. Students and first responders will act out, in dramatic fashion, a fatal crash involving impaired driving and lack of seatbelt use. Informative narration will be provided throughout the event. This simulated crash is designed to send a clear message to students regarding the potential consequences of impaired driving and choosing not to wear a seatbelt. Last year, two teenagers lost their lives in fatal crashes in Calcasieu Parish. Both of these crashes involved impaired drivers and neither teenager was wearing a seatbelt. Anyone near the school while the event is taking place can expect to see emergency vehicles using lights and sirens as well as an air ambulance landing at the school. This is a part of the event. The media is invited to attend. Media representatives are encouraged to arrive early for set-up. Participants and sponsors include Axiall Corporation, Sam Houston High School, Louisiana State Police Troop D, Ward 1 Fire Department, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department, Acadian Ambulance & Air Med, Hixson’s Funeral Home, Acadiana Glass, and Bayou Wrecker Service.
