TROOP D NEWS RELEASE

August 28, 2014
Motorcyclist Killed by Impaired Driver

Jefferson Davis Parish – On August 27, 2014, at 9:08 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Louisiana Highway 383 about 2 miles north of Iowa that claimed the life of the motorcyclist.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Mercury Marquis driven by 38-year-old Clayton Jack, Jr. of Ville Platte was traveling south on LA 383 when the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line. The car struck a northbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by 54-year-old Brian D. Hackenbruch of Kinder head-on. Hackenbruch was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Davis Parish Coroner’s Office.

Jack sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a Lake Charles hospital for treatment.

Impairment on the part of Jack is suspected to be a factor in the crash and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Last year, 63 percent of motorists who died in crashes investigated by Troop D were killed by an impaired driver. Impaired driving continues to be a significant problem on Louisiana roadways.

The Louisiana State Police and other area law enforcement agencies are currently participating in the nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.

Troop D has investigated 8 fatal crashes resulting in 8 deaths this year.
