TROOP D NEWS RELEASE September 2, 2014 Calcasieu Parish Fatal Crash Calcasieu Parish – On September 2, 2014, at 8:10 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 Eastbound about 2 1/2 miles from the Texas state line. The crash involved two large trucks and claimed the life of one of the drivers. The preliminary investigation revealed that an 18-wheeler driven by 25-year-old Adrian T. Desmeuchet of Stafford, TX was traveling east on Interstate 10 in the right lane when his trailer was struck from behind by a second truck. The second truck was heavily damaged and caught on fire. The driver of the second truck was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. Demeuchet was not injured. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from both drivers. The crash remains under investigation. Interstate 10 Eastbound was closed at the crash location for 2 hours and 20 minutes until the left lane could safely be opened. The right lane remained closed for an additional 4½ hours for cleanup and investigation. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, inattentive and distracted driving continues to be a factor in many of the crashes that occur in our state. Information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov. Troop D has investigated 9 fatal crashes resulting in 9 deaths this year. Contact Information: | |||
