TROOP D NEWS RELEASE September 9, 2014 Fourth Offense DWI Arrest near Sulphur Sulphur – Early this morning, Troopers arrested a Singer man for fourth offense DWI after he crashed his car near Sulphur. On September 9, 2014, at 1:46 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a crash on U.S. Highway 90 just east of Sulphur in Calcasieu Parish. The driver, 30-year-old James Brenton Dale Burnett of Singer, drove off of the road and struck a guard rail. He was observed leaving the scene as Troopers arrived. Burnett was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Burnett, who has an extensive criminal history, submitted a breath sample of .124g% which is more than 50% over the legal limit for alcohol. Burnett was charged with careless operation and DWI fourth offense. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. Bond was set at $11,500. Impaired driving continues to be a significant problem on our nation’s roadways. While no one was hurt in this crash, the outcome could have been much different.
