Fourth Offense DWI Arrest near Sulphur

Sulphur – Early this morning, Troopers arrested a Singer man for fourth offense DWI after he crashed his car near Sulphur.

On September 9, 2014, at 1:46 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a crash on U.S. Highway 90 just east of Sulphur in Calcasieu Parish. The driver, 30-year-old James Brenton Dale Burnett of Singer, drove off of the road and struck a guard rail. He was observed leaving the scene as Troopers arrived. Burnett was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Burnett, who has an extensive criminal history, submitted a breath sample of .124g% which is more than 50% over the legal limit for alcohol. Burnett was charged with careless operation and DWI fourth offense. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. Bond was set at $11,500.

Impaired driving continues to be a significant problem on our nation’s roadways. While no one was hurt in this crash, the outcome could have been much different. In 2012, over 10,000 people lost their lives in our country in impaired driving crashes and many more were injured. To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
