TROOP D NEWS RELEASE September 16, 2014 Texas Man Arrested for Fifth DWI Vinton – Earlier today, Troopers charged a Texas man with his fifth DWI since 2008. On September 16, 2014, at 8:28 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch on U.S. Highway 90 about a mile east of Vinton in Calcasieu Parish. The driver, 38-year-old Curtis Shane Steitler of Lufkin, TX, drove off of the road and his vehicle got stuck in a ditch. He stated that he blacked out. Steitler was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Upon arrival, Troopers observed signs of impairment on the part of Steitler and he performed poorly on field sobriety tests. A toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. Steitler has been arrested by Texas authorities for DWI four times since 2008. Steitler was charged with DWI fourth offense (the maximum the law allows), driving under suspension, and careless operation. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. Bond was set at $84,000. Impaired driving continues to be a problem on Louisiana roadways.
