TROOP D NEWS RELEASE

August 30, 2013
Oberlin Woman Dies in Jefferson Davis Parish Crash

On August 30, 2013, at 6:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 26 near Louisiana Highway 102 in the community of Hathaway in Jefferson Davis Parish that claimed the life of an Oberlin woman.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Toyota truck driven by a 16-year-old juvenile was traveling south on LA 26 when the driver attempted to make a left turn into a private parking lot. The Toyota traveled into the path of a northbound 2002 Ford Focus driven by another 16-year-old juvenile resulting in a collision.

A passenger in the Focus, 66-year-old Louise Frank of Oberlin, was injured as a result of the crash and was transported to Jennings American Legion Hospital where she later died.

The driver of the Toyota truck received minor injuries and was cited for improper left turn and no seat belt.

The driver of the Focus was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor and the crash remains under investigation.

Although impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, the Louisiana State Police and other law enforcement agencies continue to participate in the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign throughout the Labor Day holiday weekend. On average, 167 people lose their lives across our country in alcohol related crashes over the Labor Day weekend each year. Our goal in Louisiana is zero deaths.

Please designated a sober driver before going to a bar, restaurant, casino, or party where alcohol will be consumed. The life you save may be your own.

Troop D has investigated 18 fatal crashes resulting in 16 fatalities so far this year.
