Unrestrained Texas Man Dies in Beauregard Parish Crash

Beauregard Parish- On March 31, 2013, at 4:32 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 190 about 1 mile east of the Texas state line in Beauregard Parish that claimed the life of a man from Texas.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Nissan Frontier driven by 69-year-old Robert Norman of Bon Wier, TX was traveling west on U.S. 190 when for unknown reasons his vehicle traveled off the left side of the highway. Norman then overcorrected to the right and lost control of the vehicle. The Nissan then entered a ditch on the right side of the highway and overturned.

Norman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Norman and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash and is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.

This is the sixth fatal crash investigated by Louisiana State Police Troop D this year.
