Unrestrained Man Dies in Beauregard Parish Crash

Beauregard Parish- On March 13, 2013, at 10:15 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 26 about 10 miles east of DeRidder in Beauregard Parish that claimed the life of a man from Leesville and injured a man from Sugartown.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Ford Expedition driven by 61-year-old Dennis Webber of Leesville was traveling west on LA 26. For unknown reasons, Webber lost control of the vehicle he was driving and ran off the road. The SUV Webber was driving then traveled back onto the highway sideways into the path of an eastbound 2000 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by 52-year-old Ronnie Ferrell of Sugartown.

The SUV Webber was driving was then struck on the passenger side by the pick-up truck. The crash caused the pick-up truck to catch fire, completely burning the inside of the cab and the engine compartment.

Webber, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Beauregard Parish Coroner’s Office.

Ferrell was wearing a seatbelt and was transported from the scene with moderate injuries.

Toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.

This is the fifth fatal crash investigated by Louisiana State Police Troop D this year.
