Fatal Crash on Interstate 10 in Jefferson Davis Parish

Welsh, LA- On February 18, 2013, at 6:36 p.m., Louisiana Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate Highway 10 Westbound west of Welsh (milepost 53.1) in Jefferson Davis Parish that claimed the life of a woman from Welsh.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1995 Nissan Frontier was traveling west on Interstate 10 in the right lane when for unknown reasons the driver, 25-year-old Tressa Hoffpauir of Welsh, drove onto the right shoulder. Hoffpauir then abruptly drove back onto the westbound right lane of travel into path of an 18-wheeler. The 18-wheeler then struck the driver’s side of the Nissan.

Hoffpauir was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. Two passengers in her vehicle, 32-year-old Shannon Hoffpauir of Jennings and a juvenile were transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries. None of the occupants of the Nissan Frontier were wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Mark Ardoin of Lake Charles, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

Toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.

This is the first fatal crash investigated by Louisiana State Police Troop D this year.
