Woman Arrested for DWI Three Times in Three Months

Lake Charles, LA -- On February 7, 2013, shortly before 6:00 p.m., a State Trooper stopped a vehicle after he observed the driver commit a traffic violation on Louisiana Highway 3059 in Calcasieu Parish. The driver, 32-year-old Desireah Annette Chapman of Lake Charles, performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test that was administered at the location of the traffic stop. Chapman was placed under arrest.

Chapman, whose driver’s license is currently suspended due to a previous DWI, was charged with DWI third offense, driving under suspension, and improper lane usage. She was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. If convicted, Chapman faces up to five and one-half years in prison and up to a $2,000 fine for driving under suspension and third offense DWI.

In late November 2012, Troopers assigned to Troop D arrested Chapman for DWI with child endangerment. Chapman had a 6-year-old child with her in the vehicle at the time of the arrest. Last month, Troopers arrested Chapman for DWI second offense.

In 2011, 50% of people who died in crashes investigated by Louisiana State Police Troop D were killed by impaired drivers (alcohol and/or drugs). To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.
