REGION 2 NEWS RELEASE May 3, 2013 Lake Charles Man Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography Last month, detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations initiated an Operation Child Watch investigation that led to a search warrant for a residence in Lake Charles. Troopers conducted a search warrant at the residence of 27-year-old Jeffrey Smith of Lake Charles on May 2, 2013. Computers were seized and Smith was arrested for pornography involving juveniles. During questioning, Smith admitted to downloading sexually explicit images of children. Smith was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. The investigation is continuing. If convicted, Smith faces up to a $50,000 fine and from five to twenty years in prison without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. The mission of Operation Child Watch is to rescue children from the potential abuse of child predators by targeting those individuals with sexually explicit images and/or videos on their computers.
