TROOP D NEWS RELEASE July 20, 2013 Unrestrained Oakdale Man Killed In Allen Parish Crash Allen Parish – Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed an unrestrained man from Oakdale, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:20 a.m., which occurred on Sam Cloud Road north of LA Hwy 10. The crash involved a 2006 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Sherwin Ashworth (W/M 42 yrs). The Chevrolet was northbound on Sam Cloud Road when Ashworth lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, Ashworth overcorrected his vehicle to the left and then again exited the right side of the roadway before colliding with a utility pole. Ashworth was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!” Troop D has investigated 14 fatal crashes which have resulted in 16 deaths so far this year.
