News Release – Troop D January 10, 2012 Unrestrained driver killed in crash on LA 27 in Calcasieu Parish Sulphur, LA–On Monday, January 9, 2012, at approximately 4:35 p.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 27 about 5 miles north of Sulphur that claimed the life of Sulphur man and injured two others. Investigating troopers report that a 2003 Dodge pick-up truck driven by 20-year-old Nicholas Paul Miller of Sulphur was traveling north on LA 27 when the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2001 Ford Expedition driven by 67-year-old Randall Morrison of Sulphur. Morrison, who was not wearing a seat belt, died as a result of his injuries. Miller, who had his seat belt on, received only minor injuries. A passenger in Miller’s car, 20-year-old Kyle Joseph Natali of Sulphur, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle Natali was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries and was ticketed for failure to wear a seat belt. Miller was charged with driving left of center and defective vehicle equipment. Alcohol or drug use has not been determined at this time. A toxicology sample was obtained from the drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana state law requires all vehicle occupants to wear a seat belt. Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in a crash. Buckle up Louisiana.
