LAKE CHARLESThis morning at 10:42 a.m., State Police received a telephone call advising of an incident at Louisiana Tank located north of Lake Charles at 4187 Highway 3059.  Troopers with the Louisiana State Police Hazardous Materials Unit as well as an agent from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality responded.  Preliminary investigation revealed a drum at the work site exploded while being pressurized.  The drum contained Aluma Brite which is a corrosive agent.

A contract employee, Ronald Franks, 49, of Ville Platte, was injured as a result of the explosion and airlifted to a local hospital.  He is currently in stable condition.  No other injuries were reported.  The event was confined to a small area of the property and no one in the surrounding area was ever in danger.  The incident remains under investigation.
