Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – Troop D August 26, 2010 ***UPDATE*** Man Arrested in Connection With Fatal Crash Jeff Davis Parish- Today, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D arrested 45-year-old Roy Serie of Ville Platte, LA, in connection with a crash that occurred on May 5, 2010. Serie was the driver of a Ford F-150 that crossed the median striking another vehicle resulting in the death of two people and the injury of another. This week, troopers received the toxicology results back from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. The results indicated that Serie had illegal narcotics in his system at the time of the crash. Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Serie for the following charges: Two counts vehicular homicide One count driving while intoxicated One count vehicular negligent injuring Serie was taken into custody today without incident and booked into the Jeff Davis Parish Jail for the warrant. May 5, 2010 Five Vehicle Crash Kills Two and Injures Two in Jeff Davis Parish IOWA - Two people died this afternoon and two others sustained moderate injuries as the result of a five vehicle crash in Jeff Davis Parish. At 3:35 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D received a report of a serious crash on U.S. 165 approximately 5 miles north of Interstate 10. Upon arrival, troopers discovered a 2007 Ford F-150 driven by 45-year-old Roy Serie of Ville Platte had been traveling north when it crossed the median and struck a southbound 2005 Nissan Armada driven by 34-year-old Shannon Cox of Lake Charles. Cox was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Serie’s vehicle, 45-year-old Sheila Serie of Ville Platte, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Roy Serie and a passenger in Cox’s vehicle, 46-year-old Beth Zilbert of Lake Charles, were transported to hospitals in Lake Charles with moderate injuries. Three other vehicles were struck by debris during the crash. None of the occupants in those vehicles were injured. Toxicology samples have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending. This is the ninth fatality crash investigated by Louisiana State Police Troop D this year. Contact Information: Sgt.
