Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: June 13, 2010 Lake Charles Man Killed In Crash Last night, a single vehicle crash killed one man and injured another. Troopers responded to the crash around 9:20 pm, which occurred on the I-10 east bound off ramp to I-210 west bound in Calcasieu Parish. The crash involved a 1988 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Tony W. Johness (B/M 46 yrs). The Chevrolet was east bound on the I-10 off ramp when Johness lost control and partially exited the left side of the roadway. He then overcorrected his vehicle, reentered the roadway, and exited the right side. After exiting the right side, the Chevrolet collided with an aluminum guardrail before overturning. Johness was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected. He was pronounced dead. His only passenger, identified as Walter J. Johness (B/M 48 yrs) of Lake Charles, LA, received minor injuries. He was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for treatment. Alcohol usage is suspected. Toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
