Lake Charles Resident Arrested in Child Pornography Case

LAKE CHARLES - On September 17, 2010, detectives with the Lake Charles office of the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation served a search warrant at a residence in Lake Charles in connection with a child pornography investigation. Two computers were found at the residence. A forensic preview of those computers revealed no child pornography.

Detectives were able to determine that a neighbor located at 711 Murbelle Street in Lake Charles was accessing the router located at the original residence illegally. A search warrant was obtained for that second residence.

During that search, a computer belonging to 19-year-old Tyler Leger was located. A forensic search of Leger's computer revealed child pornography on the computer. During an interview, Leger admitted to downloading child pornography using his neighbor's internet service without permission. Leger was arrested for unauthorized use of a wireless router system (LRS 14:73.8) and pornography involving juveniles (LRS 14:81.1). He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. The case is ongoing.

Troopers would like to remind everyone of the importance of securing wireless routers located at businesses and residences.
